Writer-director Hansal Mehta has accused censor board of discrimination, saying his film ‘Shahid’ was rated ‘A’ while big films like ‘Ramleela’ and ‘Madras Cafe’ were given U/A certificate despite having kissing and violent scenes has accused CBFC of being lenient towards big films and specifically picking faults in small budgeted films with lesser known cast.

He put his anger on display and filed an RTI to know the criteria on which Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela and Madras Café were given the U/A certifications. Hansal mentioned that these two movies had abundant violence and kissing scenes, but just because they were backed by big production houses, they were let off easily. He clarified that while he doesn’t have anything against the films, Mehta threatened that he would file many more RTIs regarding many other 2013 films. He feels that good movies like Shahid suffer and get delayed because of censor board’s double standards and their business gets jeopardized majorly.
