Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra

The wedding of Bollywood actress, Shilpa Shetty, and London-based businessman, Raj Kundra, was an over-the-top majestic ceremony for its pompous, lavish and unforgettable royal celebrations. They got married on November 22, 2009, at Bawa’s Villa in Khandala. Be it mehendisangeet or the wedding, the ceremonies were enough to display the royalty of this celebrity couple.

Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan

The ‘King of Bollywood’, Shah Rukh Khan married Gauri Chibber, a Punjabi Hindu, in a traditional way. The ceremony was held on 25 October 1991, after a six year courtship. In those days, Shah Rukh wasn’t a much successful actor, but he managed to spend over 1 crore on his wedding. This is basically his love marriage.

Vivek Oberoi and Priyanka Alva

The opulence-crazy couple got married in a splendid style in 2010, at the lavish Alva farmhouse, near Hebbal Lake, in Bangalore. Bollywood star, Vivek Oberoi and Priyanka Alva, daughter of former Indian politician Jeevraj Alva, had a royal themed wedding. Even before the wedding functions started, they had everyone’s attention with their opulent wedding cards. Their wedding invite was a limited-edition piece; the two-tiered box contained an expensive Ganjifa artwork, which made it a collector’s item.

Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna 

Akshay has long been in love affairs with a number of fashion models and Bollywood actresses. But finally, he announced his marriage with actress Twinkle Khanna, the daughter of Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia. The two stars married of 17 January 2001. Their son named Aarav was born in September 2002. Akshay spent over 3.5 crores on this wedding.

Hrithik and Suzanne

This wedding was considered to be the most heartbreaking especially since Hrithik became Bollywood’s most adorable and loved celeb. Regardless of the what happened next, the couple seemed to have made the perfect wedding couple.

Genelia D'Souza and Riteish Deshmukh

The cute couple pulled out all the stops to have a gala wedding and make their big day an affair to remember. The amount of cash that the lovebirds, Genelia and Riteish Deshmukh dropped on their nuptials was off-limit. Their wedding on February 3, 2012, was held in a grand and high-class Maharashtrian style. After this, the couple went on to formalise their wedding with Catholic rituals in a church. It was a grand five-day affair; and the actual wedding was held in the Taj Lands End hotel, Mumbai.

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan

This was one lavish ceremony that was meant to go in the history of B-town celeb weddings. Not all the details about Abhi-Ash wedding have been disclosed, but as per the reports, the cost for this larger-than-life event was incredible. The gorgeous blue-eyed actress, Aishwarya Rai, tied the knot with Abhishek Bachchan, on April 20, 2007, at the Bachchan bungalow, Prateeksha. It was a regal ceremony filled with their closest friends and family. Though their wedding was a low key affair, it was still a lavish celebration. It included many of Bollywood’s and politics’ big names like Anil Ambani, Karan Johar, Amar Singh, and more. 

Avantika and Imran Khan 

Imran Khan announced his wedding with his ladylove Avantika Mallik. The couple invited various Bollywood celebrities on this occasion. Imran and Avantika’s mehendi ceremony took place at Avantika’s parent’s farmhouse in Karjat. The baraat was arranged at the Taj Lands End hotel of Mumbai. The estimated cost of this wedding was 5.2 crores.

Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor's wedding on October 16, 2012, took the concept of ‘pomp and show’ to another level. The celebrations and merriment was never-ending for their five-day long nuptial ceremony. Celebrities from royal families and the world of sports, films and politics made the royal wedding a stunning spectacle with their mighty presence.

Arpita and Aayush

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s sister, Arpita has recently wed with Delhi based boy Aayush Sharma. Salman arranged royal settings for the VIP guests. The most lavish part was when the guests including the President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were entertained in the Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad, and 60 exclusive rooms were booked. The wedding was held on November 18, 2014, and Salman spent around 5 crores on it.

The Larger than life image portrayed by Salman Khan in the movie came at a cost which only a Salman starrer movie could earn back. Needless to say, Suraj Barjatiya’s bet paid off and PRDP became one of the highest grossing movies of all time.

5. Dhoom 3 (175 CR)

The third part of the Dhoom series had to pack a punch when it released. They hired Amir Khan as the main villain and Katrina Kaif as the female lead. With the rest of the leading cast remaining the same and a lot of special effects and massive stunt scenes added to it, it’s no wonder why this film cost up to 175 crores!

6. Bang Bang (160 CR)

This Indian version of the Hollywood flick ‘Kinght and Day’ starring Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif, went all out with the action sequences and dance numbers when it came to impressing the audience. It was made at the whopping cost of 140 crores!

7. Happy New Year (150 CR)

It doesn’t matter if you liked the movie or not, it sure was grand. Shot in Dubai, multi-starrer and everything that glitters cost the movie a whopping 150 crores.

8. Kick (140 CR)

This mega hit movie starring Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez tells the tale of Devil Lal Singh(Salman Khan) who has a big love for getting ‘Kicks’ in life. The film was made on a budget of 120 crores.

9. Robot (132 CR)

Director S.Shankar is known for making movies that no one else could attempt, that is the reason he has appeared thrice in the list. Shankar has already announced the most expensive movie of all time which is the sequel to his blockbuster Enthiran which also cost more than most movies.

10. Ra.One (130 CR)

This super hero flick starring Shahrukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor, where Shahrukh plays the role of both the master scientist and his ingenious robot was made at a production cost of 130 crores!

11. Mughal-E-Azam (Special Mention) (1.5 crores)

This movie was made in 1960 at a budget of 1.5 crores. It might seem a paltry sum now, but back then that sum was unheard of!
