Thalaiva of Indian Film Industry - Rajinikanth

Rajinikanth’s real name is Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, Rajinikanth was born on 12 December 1950, in a Maratha family in Bangalore,Karnataka. His mother was a housewife, and his father Ramoji Rao Gaekwad, a police constable, He was named Shivaji Rao Gaekwad after Chhatrapati Shivaji, a Maratha warrior King, and was brought up speaking Marathi at home and Kannada outside.

He began acting in plays while working in the Bangalore Transport Service as a bus conductor. In 1973, he joined the Madras Film Institute to pursue a diploma in acting.

He started off his acting career with mythological Kannada plays. His most prominent role was that of Duryodhana.

Rajinikanth was noticed in a Kannada play at the Film Institute by director K Balachander.

Rajinikanth began his film career through the Tamil film Apoorva Raagangal (1975). K Balachander gave Rajinikanth a relatively small role as an abusive husband of Srividya.

 A review from The Hindu noted that, "Newcomer Rajinikanth is dignified and impressive".

After playing several negative roles and characters with grey shades, his first positive role was in S P Muthuraman's Bhuvana Oru Kelvikkuri. After this, he collaborated with director Muthuraman in 25 movies.

Rajinikanth's first big commercial success was Billa, a remake of the 1978 Amitabh Bachchan-starrer, Don.

T Rama Rao's Andha Kanoon was Rajinikanth's first Bollywood film. It also starred Hema Malini and Reena Roy, and Amitabh Bachchan had a special extended guest appearance.

In 1988, Rajinikanth made an appearance in the English action adventure Bloodstone.

The critically and commercially appreciated Thalapathi, which also starred Mammooty, was the first and only film in which Rajinikanth worked with noted director Mani Ratnam. Thalapathi is also Rajini’s only film that was released by the Censor Board with a U/A certificate.

Baasha, which released in 1995, established the actor as a superstar and broke several box-office records.

Rajinikanth usually goes to the Himalayas after the release of his films. Also to Bangalore however, is his favourite spot to hang out with his old buddies.

He got  Rs 26 crore remuneration for his film sivaji which was a super hit and became the highest paid actor in India and second highest in Asia after Jackie Chan. He broke his own record when he was paid Rs 45 Crore for the Blockbuster film Endhiran(Robot).

Amitabh Bachchan's untouched great "Don" was changed by the whiz as "Billa" in Tamil in 1980 which was coordinated by R. Krishnamurthy. The official redo was made in Tamil as well as in every single southern dialect and all were similarly effective in the cinema world. 

 

Trishul (1978) – Mr. Bharath (1986) 

Rajinikanth's 'Mr. Bharath' was a revamp of this 1978 Big B exemplary hit "Trishul" which additionally featured Shashi Kapoor, Rakhee, Hema Malini and Sanjeev Kumar. The Tamil redo was coordinated by S.P. Muthuraman which featured Rajnikanth, Sathyaraj, Ambika, Goundamani, S. V. Shekhar and others. The motion picture added another quill to the hotshot's cap. 

 

Kasme Vaade (1978) – Dharmathin Thalaivan (1988) 

Rajinikanth's 'Dharmathin Thalaivan' was a redo of Ramesh Behl's 'Kasme Vaade', which discharged ten years after the first. The Hindi flick had Big B in a twofold part alongside Rakhee, Randhir Kapoor, Neetu Singh and Amjad Khan. Laawaris (1981) – Panakkaran (1990) 

This Prakash Mehra coordinated Amitabh Bachchan blockbuster around a vagrant was changed in 1990 as "Panakkaran" by Rajinikanth which was coordinated by P. Vasu. Gauthami repeated Zeenat Aman's part in the flick which made Rajini the undisputed ruler of the movies. 

 

Namak Halaal (1982) – Velaikaran (1987) 

Another Big B starrer which had Waheeda Rehman, Shashi Kapoor and Smita Patil in crucial parts, was revamped in Tamil as "Velaikaran" with S.P. Muthuraman as executive. The Tamil form too hit the bullseye in the cinematic world and did thundering business.

Khuddaar (1982) – Padikkathavan (1985) 

Amitabh Bachchan's activity dramatization, "Khuddaar" was revamped in Tamil as "Padikkathavan" in 1985 where Rajinikanth played the lead once more. The Hindi film was coordinated by Ravi Tandon while the Tamil redo was coordinated by Rajasekhar. Sivaji Ganesan assumed Sanjeev Kumar's part and Ambika played the sentimental lead inverse Rajini. 

 

Mard (1985) - Maaveeran (1986) 

This Manmohan Desai exemplary which had Amitabh Bachchan playing a "Tangewala" who battles against the British imperialism, was an enormous hit in 1985. The film was revamped in Tamil as "Maaveeran" by Rajini in the next year. "Mard" was the last effective excursion of the Manmohan-Amitabh pair.
